Erin Nicolas

Hello! My name is Erin Pridgen Nicolas and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I have over 10 years of experience working with children and their parents. I have a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree for Georgia State University. I have spent my professional career working both in non-profit and private practice settings but I have always focused on working with children and their parents.

As a play therapist, I specialize in working with children from ages 3 to 11 as well as their parents. I particularly love working with children through anxiety, anger, behavioral issues, depression, grief, self esteem, sleep issues and stress. With my child clients, I utilize both directive and non-directive approaches depending on the needs of my child client. Every child is unique and therefore every child deserves a therapeutic approach that fits their needs. I strive to utilize their creative and playful nature to enhance their resiliency and coping abilities with whatever struggles they may face with the context of a warm and supportive environment.

With parents, I like to focus on building and strengthening the parent-child relationship through filial therapy. Through this didactic and relational approach, I help guide parents into becoming an agent of change in their children’s lives through enhancing connection and communication. Parents leave the filial process knowing how to tackle a wide variety of parenting situations. In the end, this is one of my most favorite ways to work with families as it puts the parent in the driver’s seat and focuses on the bigger picture of the relationship rather than just putting out fires at home.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our son and our dog Lucy. We enjoy quality time together cooking and baking delicious goodies, riding our bikes, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
