Jamila Allen, APC

Lauren Wallace and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor.

Watching your child or teen struggle with anxiety, overwhelming emotions, confidence, or life’s challenges can leave you wondering how to best support them. You want them to feel understood, capable, and equipped with the tools they need to thrive.

I am an Associate Professional Counselor (APC) with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Georgia. My experience includes working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) supporting children with autism and years of experience as a nanny. During my clinical experience, I worked alongside my therapy dog, Duchess, using animal-assisted interventions to support connection, emotional regulation, and anxiety reduction. Together, these experiences have given me a strong understanding of child and adolescent development and reinforced my belief that every young person deserves an individualized approach to care.

 My Approach

  • Connection comes first – I strive to create a warm, welcoming environment where children and teens feel safe, accepted, and comfortable being themselves.
  • Individualized, neurodivergent-affirming care – No two children or teens are the same, so I believe therapy shouldn’t be either. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), person-centered, and strengths-based approaches, while taking a neurodivergent-affirming approach that recognizes and celebrates each client’s unique strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Animal-assisted interventions – I incorporate my therapy dog, Duchess, into sessions when appropriate to help reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation, encourage connection, and create a positive therapeutic experience.
  • Partner with parents – I believe it truly takes a village. I work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to help children and teens apply the skills they learn in therapy to everyday life.

What Makes Me Different

My background as both a nanny and Registered Behavior Technician allows me to understand children and teens from developmental, behavioral, and emotional perspectives. I believe behavior is communication, and I strive to understand the whole person, not just the challenges they may be experiencing. By combining relationship-based care with animal-assisted interventions, I create a therapeutic space where children and teens feel safe enough to grow.
