Vaishnavi Veggalam, Master’s Level Intern, Internationally Trained Physician
Hello, I am Vaishnavi, a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling candidate at the University of the Cumberlands and an internationally trained physician. I am passionate about supporting children by recognizing the important connection between their physical health and emotional well-being.
Children often express stress in ways that go beyond words through physical symptoms, big emotions, or changes in behavior. I strive to look beyond what is immediately visible and understand the whole child, creating a safe, supportive, and compassionate space where they feel heard and understood.
My medical background allows me to bring a deeper understanding of child development and the mind-body connection into the therapy room. I combine this clinical perspective with a warm, child-centered approach to support each child’s emotional growth in a way that feels both structured and nurturing. Disclaimer. “While I hold a medical degree, I am practicing here solely as a counseling intern. I do not provide medical treatment, consultations, or prescriptions in this capacity.”
My Clinical Approach:
- Clinical Synergy – By integrating my medical background with counseling expertise, I provide a holistic perspective that honors the mind-body connection. This synergy allows us to address the root causes of distress rather than just managing the symptoms.
- Integrative Skill-Building – I utilize a combination of CBT, ACT, and Solution-Focused (SFBT) techniques. This helps children translate internal “big feelings” into actionable strengths and self-regulation skills.
- Proactive Psychoeducation – I empower families by explaining the “biology of emotion.” By understanding how the mind and body work together, we turn overwhelming feelings into manageable milestones through play and connection.
What Sets Me Apart:
My background in medicine provides a rare perspective on the mind-body axis, which is especially helpful for children navigating health-related stressors or psychosomatic symptoms. Additionally, I am a multilingual practitioner, offering culturally attuned support in English, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada(conversational).
Focused Support For:
- The Mind-Body Connection: Addressing health-related stressors and how physical well-being impacts emotional regulation.
- Action-Oriented Play: Using play-based interventions rooted in solution-focused outcomes.
Vaishnavi. is under the clinical supervision and direction of Crissy Himelstein, MA, LPC, CPCS, RPTS.
